Leanne Hodgson BSc PGCE
Director of Strategy and Business Development

Leanne is the behind-the-scenes engine that drives our business strategy.

My Psychology degree facilitated a career in education, initially as a Teacher and Deputy Headteacher and more recently, as a Specialist Leader in Education and Education Consultant.

For Redwood Pensions, I manage our social media presence, marketing and business development.

Ian Hodgson BSc FIA PTPMI(Accred)
CEO

Ian is our founder and lead consultant.

I started my career with Watson Wyatt (now Willis Towers Watson), where I qualified as a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. Here, I worked with some fantastic consultants and clients, gaining a fantastic foundation in pensions and technical actuarial skills.

After leaving Watson Wyatt, I moved to KPMG to gain experience of corporate consulting. As well as the usual corporate projects (including liability management, scheme reform and closure), I was fortunate to work with organisations participating in public sector pension schemes, which broadened my pensions-horizons beyond the typical private-sector DB schemes on which most actuaries work.

My time at KPMG was heavily dominated by the introduction of pensions automatic enrolment (perhaps the most poorly-named change ever?). After supporting one large North-East employer to be amongst the first to implement the changes, I became a subject matter expert, and worked with many employers to understand and implement the changes.

My next challenge was on the Senior Leadership Team of Capita’s division looking after the Teachers’ Pension Scheme for the Department for Education. I oversaw the Pensions and Technical Team, who had dual responsibilities of advising the Department on strategy as well as managing technical queries and casework. This was an interesting time for the Scheme (and indeed, across the Public Sector): with the Hutton benefit reforms being implemented.

My latest two roles have been in the travel industry in in-house positions: developing corporate-side pensions strategy for two large, complex employers. Both of these employers have had a number of different schemes: defined benefit, defined contribution, and public sector; each with their own, unique challenges.

Aside from my corporate roles, I am also a Professional Independent Trustee with a number of appointments with schemes ranging in size from £80m to £4.7bn.
